Longcroft Engineering undertakes a successful field trip to Zambia to test Solar Pump
Solar Pump
Longcroft, in conjunction with a team from the University of Huddersfield led by Professor John Allport, undertook in January 2018 a successful field trip to Zambia to carry out preliminary field testing of SPIRP (Solar Powered Irrigation Resonance Pump) and to meet local partner, the NGO iDE. SRIRP is based on an invention patented by the former chairman of Longcroft Engineering, Dennis Carey, and which received initial funding from Innovate UK to undertake a technical feasibility study.
The pump, which is powered by solar thermal heat and has no moving parts, is now in development.
Further field trips are planned to take place later in 2018 to carry out a larger scale field test programme.
